What is a Handheld Dew Point Meter?

A handheld dew point meter is a portable, battery-operated instrument used for on-demand moisture measurement at any point in a gas system — without the permanent installation of an online transmitter. These instruments are the standard tool for commissioning verification, field troubleshooting, spot-checking suspect moisture readings, and surveying multiple measurement points across a facility.

This range includes three configurations suited to different field conditions. The replaceable-probe model offers a removable sensor for easy field servicing and USB connectivity for data export. The high-temperature model extends measurement range up to 120°C with Bluetooth data logging, suited for hot process gas spot-checks. The split-type model uses a flexible coiled cable to separate the probe from the display unit — ideal for reaching restricted access points in HVAC ducting, chemical processing equipment and laboratory apparatus.

All handheld meters in this range share a -50°C to +80°C dew point measurement range, IP66-rated stainless steel probe housing, and onboard data storage with PC connectivity for analysis and reporting in PDF, CSV or Excel format. Response time is rated under 10 seconds to 90% of final reading, enabling efficient field survey work across multiple measurement points in a single inspection.

Applications

Electrolyzer and hydrogen system commissioning verification
Field moisture spot-checks and troubleshooting
Compressed air system dryness survey
HVAC and ducting moisture inspection
Laboratory and process equipment verification
Multi-point facility moisture surveys

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the replaceable-probe, high-temperature and split-type handheld meters?
The replaceable-probe model (HDPM-50HR) allows field-serviceable probe replacement and connects via USB for data export, suited for general-purpose field use. The high-temperature model (HDPM-50HT) extends measurement up to 120°C with Bluetooth connectivity, designed for hot gas stream spot-checks. The split-type model (HDPM-50HS) uses a flexible coiled cable separating the probe from the display, allowing access to restricted or hard-to-reach measurement points in HVAC, chemical or laboratory environments.
How much data can a handheld dew point meter store?
The replaceable-probe model stores between 32,000 and 64,000 data points, suitable for extended field survey sessions with detailed logging. The high-temperature and split-type models store 99 individual data sets, suited for spot-check style measurements across multiple locations. All models export data to PC for analysis in PDF, CSV or Excel format.
What power source do handheld dew point meters use?
All handheld meters in this range operate on a standard 9V battery, providing portable, mains-independent operation for field use. Battery life varies with usage pattern and display backlight settings. Carry spare batteries for extended field survey sessions.
What is the response time of a handheld dew point meter?
Response time is rated at under 10 seconds to reach 90% of the final reading, measured at 25°C with 1 m/s airflow across the sensor. The high-temperature model offers faster internal calculation, updating every 10 milliseconds. This rapid response supports efficient measurement across multiple points during a single field inspection.
Can the probe be replaced if damaged?
Yes — the replaceable-probe and split-type models use field-serviceable probes that can be replaced without returning the instrument for factory service, minimising downtime if a probe is damaged or needs recalibration. Contact Hydrogenergy for replacement probe availability and compatibility with your specific instrument model.
